ARE DREAMS 'REAL'? |
What if I was to claim your dreams, actually, are very real indeed? You’d probably think I’d got a loose screw – but still, I’m going to attempt to show you why I believe that the reality of your dreams is as valid as your waking experience. |

When scientists look at matter they find nothing ‘solid’. Matter consists mostly of vast empty space between elementary particles and the elementary particles themselves also consist mostly of vast empty space. Matter appears to be made of no ‘thing’. There is no-‘thing’ there than can be found!
The only explanation they have is that the fundamental building material of all elementary particles is energy, and whilst they don’t agree what this ‘energy’ is, they do agree that matter is not 'solid'. |

WAKING vs DREAMING |
So both the dream and waking states are, in fact, non-solid! Do we then conclude that neither are real?
In both states, when you’re scared it ‘feels’ real; when you walk, run or bump into things it ‘feels’ real; when you meet people or fall in love it ‘feels’ real. Surely this can’t mean that both the dreaming and waking states are an illusion?

IT'S ALL A GAME. |
If dreaming and waking are both an illusion then they must be of equivalent relevance. If this is the case then surely it begs the question, 'then what is the relevance of my dreams?'
In our waking life we need conscious strategies to cope with our short and our long-term survival. Our dreams are our 'creative unconscious' playing with and rehearsing solutions and possibilities. The results of these plays are recorded by our brain as strategies for living in the 'real world'. So our dreams are a natural 'clearing house' that has a healing function. This healing process will take place whether we remember our dreams or not – but we can help things along if we do remember them.
Remembering our dreams is another small step towards freedom – a bridge between our waking life and our dream life will help us develop our intuition.
Mostly we make decisions with our intellects – a faculty that is limited by our beliefs and also by the laws of the system in which we live. Our dreaming mind uses space and time in a very flexible manner and uses multidimensional symbols whose meaning can be unpacked to reveal a wealth of information – so being aware of our dreams and being able to interpret them helps us to make very creative decisions. |
